What is Bele Chere do you ask?

 From Wikipedia the definition is:

    • “Bele Chere is an annual music and arts street festival held in Asheville, North Carolina. The festival has been held annually on the last in July since the late 1970s. It is the largest free festival in the Southeastern United States, attracting over 350,000 people. …”


So in one word “FUN!”

Summer is hot, and time for a vacation. Asheville is a great area to take some time off and enjoy all the mountains has to offer. Bele Chere has fun for all ages. No matter what your taste from music to food to great buys, this festival offers it.

The Bele Chere Festival is an annual 3-day festival on the streets of downtown Asheville featuring live, original music on 4 stages for 300,000 festivalgoers.  The festival is committed to a diverse musical line up and features local, regional and national performers. Featured past performers include Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Old 97’s, Cracker, The Family Stone Project, Travis Tritt, The Wailers, Original P Funk, Cowboy Mouth, Rusted Root, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Marty Stuart, Gin Blossoms, Galactic, Gov’t Mule and many others.

Arts and Crafts

Bele Chere Asheville NC Arts and CraftsThis is what our area is known for. Arts and crafts vendors travel from all over the country to set up shop in the streets of Asheville to take part in the Bele Chere festival fun. This presents an opportunity for you to call one of these masterpieces your own.

Metalwork, fabric, paint, ceramics, woodwork and a variety of other mediums are featured throughout the festival. Stroll through the standard Festival Arts and Crafts, take some time to visit Arts Park in the Drhumor parking lot to visit with the selected artists, and most importantly – enjoy the day.

Bele Cher Kids Area Asheville NCBELE CHERE CHILDREN’S AREA

The Children’s Area is located on the Arena Level of the Asheville Civic Center located at 87 Haywood Street. A mixture of free crafts, ticketed rides, and free children’s performances will be offered to festival goers all weekend. This area is alcohol free.

Bele Chere will offer 2 food courts for 2011. They include the Taste of Asheville and the Pritchard Park food court.
